TYPE 1 DIABETES
Is insulin dependent.
The body does not make enough or doesn't make any insulin at all. Usually occurs in young people.
Weight loss will not help this type of diabetes they will need diabetes.
TYPE 2 DIABETES
Is non insulin
dependent The body makes insulin but does not work correctly. Usually
occurs in people that have a strong family history of diabetes. Starts
when you are adult and is more common in people that are overweight, with most of the weight in the
abdomen (i.e. abdominal girth is greater than 35 inches in women and 45 inches in men.) Weight loss will
help reduce insulin resistance and help keep the blood sugar in the normal range.
